shooting with confidence
It is very very important to shoot with confidence. When you watch a great shooter shoot you can tell he shoots with confidence. Practicing is great but if you do not shoot with confidence you will never be able to be a good shooter. You have to play every day with the mentality that if you are left open you are going to knock down the shot no matter where you are on the floor. The way you build confidence is practicing your shooting. It is very important in order to build confidence to shoot every chance you get. For example, I have a very busy schedule but I try to shoot in between classes or after. If you do not have access to a gym or a hoop at any time there are little tricks to keep your shot right without actually shooting at a gym. On trick you can use is to lay on your back on a bed or the floor and go through the process of shooting over and over by shooting the ball to the ceiling. Try to get the ball as close to the ceiling without touching it. Here is a video of the famous coach Red teaching important factors of shooting using one of the best shooters ever Larry Bird.

Advanced

After you have finished the beginner warm up now its time to start the real warm up. Remember shooting takes alot of practice and if you dont believe me just take it from the pros.
Ok the next thing you are going to do is to work on your ball handling and shooting at the same time. Start off in the corner again either from 3 or at 2 pointer which ever you are more comfortable. Have your partner pass the ball out to you and before you shoot it give your defender a pump fake and then shoot. make sure to keep your pump fake nice and tight. this simulates a defender running out to block your shot, you just simply give them a simple pump fake and take a open jumper. Here is the hard part you have to make 5, but you can only miss 2. so you have to make at least 5 out of 7 every time. If you dont make this keep trying untill you do.
The next shot you are going to work on is the jab step. Have your partner pass the ball out to you and then imagine a defener is guarding you. Give your defender a strong pump fake either right or left to get them off balance and take your shot. Remember you have to make 5 shots
with only 2 misses.
The next one Shot you can work on is the crossover between your legs. To do this have you partner pass the ball out to you and imagine the defender is on you again. now you want to get him off you, take one hard dribble to the right simulating that you are going to go past him, the defender will react by tring to cut you off after your defender gets out of position cross over behind your leg and take your shot. after making 5 do this doing left.
Now you wanna do this with several different moves. now do the same thing as the crossover between your legs but now you can do it with a double cross over, and behind the back dribble.
Do this drill for 5 spots on the court and make sure to make 5 for every move. It will be hard at first the more you practice this the better you will get.

Shooting 101

Beginner
Its is allways easier and better to shoot with a partner. so before you start to begin practice go out and grab a friend, your dad, or just anyone who will help you rebound.
To start, first you have to warm up your shot. Alot of players just go out there and start shooting from everywhere on the court with out working on thier form.
To do this start right in front of the rim and make 10. I know it sounds easy but this really helps to keep your form right so when you move out farther your form will stay the same. After you make 10 in the from make 10 from the sides. after that move a step back and do the same thing.
Now you are ready to pick it up a little. Now you are going to work on your 15 ft. jump shoot. Start in the corner about 15 ft. away from the basket and make 10. Do this for 7 spots on the court, make sure to make 10 from every spot. After this move out to a farther spot. i like to move back to a three point shot but if your not ready for that just take a step back.
